UMCI will be home to a portfolio of cutting-edge master’s degrees and academic programs designed to serve more than 500 students annually. Each program is intentionally rooted in Detroit, leveraging the city’s unique assets and opportunities to create a compelling, place-based rationale that extends beyond the University’s Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses.
Each program aligns with at least one of UMCI’s core pillars:
- Climate Action and Clean Energy
- Applied Artificial Intelligence
- Advanced Manufacturing and Mobility
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Developed in collaboration with local industry leaders and community organizations, these programs are informed by real-world insights and market analysis. Programs are designed to stay ahead of workforce trends, preparing graduates to step confidently into high-demand roles across Detroit, Michigan, and beyond.
Students will gain hands-on, interdisciplinary experience through foundational coursework, cross-program electives, capstone projects, workshops, certificates, and other high-impact learning opportunities. They will also engage directly with the community through initiatives that benefit local residents, organizations, and schools—ensuring UMCI graduates leave equipped with the skills, experience, and civic mindset to drive meaningful change.
